BISD Physical Therapy Program
Physical Therapists are licensed health care professionals who work to make a positive difference in the quality of people's lives. Physical Therapy
is for people with health problems resulting from an injury or disease. Physical Therapists help make people stronger, relieve their pain, and help
them to regain lost function.
In the education setting, physical therapists are responsible for assessing the needs of children and providing goals and treatment plans to enable a child
to participate in the school environment and school activities. A physical therapist will work to improve motor abilities, improve proximal strength for
head control and distal movement, improve mobility for exploration of environment and interaction with peers, and improve balance and coordination for better
function in the classroom, gym and playground. The therapist will also help other team members and parents with positioning techniques and exercise programs
to continue the rehabilitation process outside of direct service time and outside of school through self-care at home.
