BISD Occupational Therapy Program Occupational Therapy facilitates independence and function in a person's day to day activities. In the school setting, Occupational Therapists address the child's ability to function throughout his/her school environment. They look at a child's sensory needs and how they cope and respond to their environment through touch, taste, smell, sound, sight and movement. Occupational Therapists integrate these senses into activities which enable a child to learn more effectively. They also work on skills to increase fine motor coordination, visual perception, eye-hand coordination and posture and balance. They look at self-care skills such as dressing, feeding skills and hygiene. Occupational Therapists incorporate a holistic approach to enable the child to be as independent as possible in their environment and in performing the tasks required to be successful.Staff Jennifer ErnstJennifer began working for Barry ISD in Fall 2005 Jackie Kimbrough |
