General Education Personnel

Jim Hund -Superintendent ext. 111
Mr. Hund graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor's degree in 1971. He graduated from CMU in 1975 with an EdS. degree in school psychology. He began his professional career in 1973 at Barry Intermediate School District as a school psychologist. Later, he became the district's supervisor of special education. In later years, he was appointed Director of Special Education. Mr. Hund was appointed Interim Superintendent in December 2002. Mr. Hund has spent thirty-three years at the district, most of it in administration and the last three and one-half as Superintendent.

Cindy Latta-Larsen is a graduate of Siena Heights College with a B.S. in Business Administration. She has 29 years of experience in Accounting with 15 years in School Business.

Debbie began employment with Barry ISD in February 2004. She has 15 years experience in banking and 7 years as an AP/AR/Payroll clerk.

Julie Guenther -Education Consultant ext. 116
Julie has an Associate of Arts degree from Grand Rapids Junior College, a Bachelors degree from Aquinas College where her major was Language Arts and her minor was Business Administration, and a Masters in the Art or Teaching with focus on curriculum, instruction and assessment from Marygrove College. In addition she holds a Michigan Teaching Certificate. Prior to joining the BISD she had teaching experience in the Delton-Kellogg Public Schools and the Hastings Area Schools. Julie is a life-long resident of Barry County.

Valerie Eavey - Michigan Works! Coordinator ext. 140
Valerie earned a B.A. in International Studies, College of Social Science, Michigan State University and has worked in human services for 13 years, 10 of them at Barry ISD. Valerie’s first five years at Barry ISD were as a case manager in the Michigan Works! Trade, Dislocated Worker, Adult and Youth programs. Valerie has served as the Michigan Works! programs coordinator for the past 5 years.

Brandi Lydy - Michigan Works! Adult Case Manager ext.117
Brandi previously attended Kellogg Community College, has earned a Bachelors degree in Business Management from Davenport University and is currently working towards a Masters in Strategic Business Management, also at Davenport. Brandi joined the team in March of 2007, handling Low Income Adult, Dislocated Worker and Trade programs. She also is an active member on the Inclusion Committee for the Calhoun area, helping to be sure MI Works! offices are prepared to assist clients at all ability levels. Brandi is excited to be a support to the community and helping people, who like herself, have been in long term job search.

Donna Lipp - Michigan Works! Youth Case Manager ext.115
Donna earned an Associates degree in Applied Science from Southwest Institute, El Paso, Texas. Donna joined the Barry ISD – Michigan Works! staff in April 2007. Donna previously worked with special needs youth at Hastings Public Schools. She enjoys helping young adults make career plans and overcome their barriers.

Emily Gingrich - Michigan Works! Customer Service Representative ext.144
Emily has worked in customer service for 9 years. She has worked on and off for the Barry ISD during the last 15 months and is now permanently employed in a full-time position within the organization. She is currently working to obtain her Associate’s Degree in Human Resource Management at Baker College.

Steve Colver has a M.A. +30. Mr. Colver has full approval from the Michigan Department of Education as Director of Special Education and Supervisor of Special Education. He holds a Central Office Administrator Certificate, Elementary Administrator Certificate and Michigan Teaching Certificate.

Dawn Coltson -Early On Coordinator ext. 133
Dawn has a B.S. degree in social sciences from Western Michigan University . She has worked with Early On since October 1997. Prior to coming to BISD, she worked at Head Start for 5 years as a Parent Involvement Coordinator, Family Worker and three year old home base teacher.

Michelle has a B.S. in Special Education with endorsements in Hearing Impaired. She has been employed by Barry ISD since 1997.

Kristen graduated from Wayne State University with a B.S. with a certificate in Physical Therapy. She has been licensed as a physical therapist in Michigan since January 1987. She has 18+ years of physical therapy experience with the last 8 years at BISD.

Terri Davis-Cairns -School Social Worker ext. 122
Terri has a Master's of Clinical Social Work and is a Licensed School Social Worker. She has worked as a school social worker since 1990 and at BISD since 1991.

Erin has an Ed.S. degree from Western Michigan University . She has Full Certification as a School Psychologist. She has been working at BISD since January 1999.

Carissa has a B.S. in education and has certificates in k-12 cognitive impairments, k-5 and biology and is working towards a certification in Early Childhood Education. She began working for BISD in August 2002.

Susan has a B.A. in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Marquette University , a M.A. in Speech and Language Pathology from Northwestern University and Certification of Clinical Competence from The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Sharion has 15+ years experience as a parapro and bus driver. She also has worked as a Job Coach for more than 3 years. She started working for BISD in September 1989.

Sandra has a B.A. from Taylor University and a Ph.D. from Ball State University . She has 9 years of experience as a practicing psychologist in the clincal setting. The 2004-2005 school year is her first in a school setting.

Michelle graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice and a Master's in Social Work. She had 2 years of experience as a School Social Worker with the Lenawee ISD in Adrian , MI prior to coming to BISD in Fall 2005.

Jackie Kimbrough -Occupational Therapist ext. 124
Jackie is a 2002 graduate from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. She is nationally licensed and registered in the state of MI. Jackie has been employed with BISD since Spring of 2003.

Joyce Lee -Moderate Cognitive Impairment, BISD West Learning Center ext. 150/156
Joyce has a Bachelor of Science degree in education for the Mentally Impaired with a minor in English and Early Childhood that she received at Western Michigan University and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Learning Disabilities at Grand Valley State University . She has been teaching the Young Adult Program since 2001 and has worked in the field of education for eight years prior to becoming employed at BISD. In addition, Joyce is also the Homeless Liaison and Homeland Security representative for the ISD.

Kristina Marcukaitis -Speech Language Pathologist ext. 166
Kris graduated from MSU with a B.A. and from Clarion University of Pennsylvania with a Master's of Science. She has an elementary teaching certificate and is a CCC-SLP. She has worked for BISD since Fall of 1997. She also has her Autism endorsement and has been named Barry County 's Autism Specialist since fall 2004. Kris has participated in GVSU's START program since fall 2001.

She has a Master's in Special Education with CI and ECDD endorsements and is working on a general masters and Spring Arbor. She had 6 years of experience before coming to BISD in Fall 2005.

Mary has 5 years of experience and loves working with children of all ages. She is easy going and is a fast learner.

Ellen has a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Sociology and Master's Degree in Social Work. She has 9 years of experience as a School Social Worker. She came to BISD in Fall 2002. She has maintained her School Social Work Certification from the State of MI and is a Certified Social Worker.

Sally Shuster Shoff -Severe Cognitive Impairment, BISD West Learning Center ext. 157
Sally has a B.S. degree from Mankato State University and a M.Ed. from Aquinas College . She has endorsements in Learning Disabilities (k-12) and Cognitively Impaired (K-12). She has worked with special needs populations since she was in 7th grade as a student assistant. She has been with BISD since 1999.

JoAnn Werkema -Severe Cognitive Impairment, West Learning Center ext. 146
My name is JoAnn Werkema. I have worked for Barry ISD since 1997. Two years were spent in a sub-teaching position. I became a permanent teacher in 2000 where I worked in an MoCI classroom for one year. I then worked for four years in an Early Childhood classroom setting. I am now teaching and working with the SCI students.

Connie Sellers -Speech Language Pathologist ext. 123
Connie has an undergraduate degree in Speech Therapy from Central Michigan University, an M.Ed. in Learning Disabilities from Wayne State University and an M.S. in Speech and Language Pathology from Northern Arizona University. She has Clinical Certification in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech and Hearing Association. Connie has more than 30 years of experience in education and speech-language pathology. She joined the Barry ISD staff in 2007.

Dawn Weeks - Transition Coordinator (269)945-9545 ext. 154.
Dawn has a B.S. in Special Education and Elementary Education as well as a MA in Special Education with an emphasis on Learning Disabilities from Grand Valley State University.  She has endorsements in Cognitive Impairments, Emotional Impairments, and Learning Disabilities and a Professional Education Certificate.  She taught special education in Delton Kellogg Schools for 9 years and was a member of the transition council for 2 years.  Dawn’s first year as Transition Coordinator at BISD was 2006.  You can reach Dawn by e-mail or at
