Barry Intermediate School District provides Michigan Works! employment and training services to Barry County residents. These services include:
Employment Service
SERVICE DESCRIPTION: BISD provides public computer access to job seekers and employers. The public can access www.michworks.org to find employer job postings and job seeker resumes via America’s Talent and Job Banks. BISD staff is available to aid computer users. Other services include resume and cover letter assistance, resource room materials, local periodicals, phone, fax, and copy services. Employment service is open to the public 8:00 am to 5 pm, M-F, except holidays.
ELIGIBILITY: None, any job seeker
Trade Act Program
SERVICE DESCRIPTION: BISD provides re-employment assistance to workers who have been certified to have lost their job due to adverse impact by foreign competition. Services include on the job and classroom training, relocation allowance, job search allowance and re-employment counseling. BISD staff also provide TAA/ATAA petition filing assistance to employers and affected workers.
ELIGIBILITY: Workers who have lost their jobs due to foreign competition, proof of certification number (TAW __-___)

Workforce Investment Act
SERVICE DESCRIPTION: BISD provides WIA employment and training programs to Barry County residents. Services include but are not limited to: on the job and classroom training, resume and cover letter preparation, personalized career counseling, resource room materials, and re-employment services.
BISD provides these Workforce Investment Act programs to residents of Barry County:
• Dislocated Worker Program -Targets workers who have been terminated from employment due to plant closure or substantial layoff.
o ELIGIBILITY: Proof of plant close or substantial layoff, resident of Barry County, a U.S. citizen or authorized resident alien.
• WIA Adult Program Targets economically disadvantaged adults 22 years of age and older.
o ELIGIBILITY: Long term unemployed or working but not making subsistence wage. Must be age 22, resident of Barry County, and a U.S. citizen or authorized resident alien.
• Youth Programs Targets economically disadvantaged youths ages 14-21. Activities include work based learning, entry level employment, mentoring, access to funds for college, access to vocational training programs, and classroom enrichment programs.
o ELIGIBILITY: Economically disadvantaged youth ages 14-21, resident of Barry County, and a U.S. citizen or authorized resident alien.
